Cochlea, Hair Cells, and Noise-Induced Hearing Loss - Medical Illustration, Human Anatomy Drawing
This highly detailed medical illustration poster shows hearing loss (deafness) caused by damage to cochlear hair cells in the ear. As loud, prolonged noises pierce the ear, the tiny hair cells die, starting with those closest to the outside of the hear which perceive high frequency sounds, and ending with those at the rear of the cochlea which perceive low frequency sounds. In addition to extensive labels for the anatomy of the inner ear, the poster shows captions and diagrams depicting hair cell loss, and common sources of 'toxic' noises.
